Carty To Get $700K, Accounting Headaches As Dell CFO

according to a filing

According to the filing, Schneider officially gave notice on Friday, Dec. 15 that he was quitting. That was the same day Dell received a second warning from NASDAQ that it faced delisting from the stock exchange for being delinquent in mandatory financial filings with the SEC. All this is happening against the backdrop of full-blown investigations by the SEC and federal prosecutors into Dell's financial accounting, and possible misstatements of the company's financial condition.

The last public statement Schneider made about the investigations, during Dell's last conference call with Wall Street analsysts in August, was this:

The man tapped to head up that independent investigation was Carty, whose only public statement on it was that he didn't know if the accounting issues under scrutiny would be material to the company.

Unknown is the status of Carty's position as chairman of Virgin America, the still-unlaunched domestic commerical air carrier. Dell's press release and SEC filing make no mention of Carty being chairman of Virgin America; Virgin America spokesmen could not be reached following Dell's end-of-day shakeup announcement Tuesday.

Carty was tapped as Virgin America's chairman earlier this year, and at the time it was announced that he would be an investor in the venture group that owns 75 percent of the airline.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Virgin America emails to report: "Mr. Carty remains Non Exec Chairman of the Board."
