Opportunity Abounds In AIDC Market

A new report by Venture Development identifies the top six emerging AIDC technologies: self-checkout systems, route accounting, reverse logistics, mobile POS, direct-store delivery and shelf-labeling.

Some AIDC solutions are being driven by advances in other technologies. For example, shelf-labeling is becoming more attractive due to innovations in wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and 802.11a, b and g, which can now be integrated into small, portable printers. Other opportunities are related to service and support.

The majority of AIDC sales are going through the indirect channel, according to Venture Development. Still, only 20 percent of solution providers surveyed currently support shelf-labeling applications. While this figure is expected to reach 28 percent over the next several quarters, it is still well below the 45 percent to 55 percent support figures for categories such as security and storage, according to CRN research data.

Solution providers that take the time to get educated on the newest AIDC technologies can establish new sources of revenue by demonstrating to their clients how these technologies can boost productivity, create sales opportunities and improve customer service.
