McAfee Channel Chief: Integration Necessary For Current Security Threats (Video)

McAfee channel chief Gavin Struthers talks with CRN TV at the 2013 RSA Conference about the rise in security threats and the need for integrated security solutions

The security industry is attempting to rapidly integrate defensive technologies in an effort to provide more context and relevance to security threats and help companies make risk-based decisions. The challenge for McAfee channel partners is to execute on a service model for providing end-to-end security services, McAfee channel chief Gavin Struthers told CRN TV.

In an interview at the 2013 RSA Conference, Struthers said the theme of big data security analytics is resonating with every security vendor at the event because the industry wants to provide more context for response and remediation of threats.

Struthers became McAfee's worldwide channel chief last year following the departure of Alex Thurber to Portland, Ore.-based Tripwire. Struthers has served a decade at McAfee and in that time he said the sophistication and frequency of attacks has increased significantly. The biggest challenge for partners, according to Struthers, is to recognize the opportunity focus on the right area. Security is arguably less than 10 percent of a company's spend and yet there is a very high profitability and big service opportunity for the channel, he said.
