  • apt-get update:
  • This is used to synchronize the package index. This is the first command that should be run after installing Apt.

  • apt-get install:
  • Follow this command with one or more package names (e.g., MySQL), and Apt will download and install the necessary packages and dependent packages.

  • apt-get upgrade:
  • Used to install the
latest versions of all packages currently on the system without removing any packages. Be certain to run "apt-get update" first.

  • apt-get remove:
  • As with install, provide a package name, and the corresponding package will be removed. No configuration files are removed with this command (in case you think better of your decision at a later time).
