Sears Ends CSC Outsourcing Contract

Sears, Roebuck and Co. recently ended its 10-year, $1.6 billion IT outsourcing agreement with Computer Sciences Corp (CSC). In a filing with the SEC, Sears cited certain performance failures under the contract as cause for termination. CSC has countered the filing, disputing the cause for termination. According to the CSC filing, the termination fee for the contract varies according to the type and date of termination.

The termination comes just less than a year after Sears signed with CSC for IT infrastructure-support services for its desktops, servers, Web systems, voice and data networks, and decision-support technology. The dispute has already landed in court with a federal court judge denying CSC's request for an injunction to stop Sears from terminating the contract for cause.
