Microsoft Certified Database Administrator

More than 50 percent of solution providers in the Certification Study reported that return on investment for the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator was improving over time, giving it an impressive first place on this scorecard ranking and a No. 3 standing overall.

That indicates the MCDBA logo is becoming increasingly important. “You know the person has at least a passing knowledge of operations and development and will treat the Microsoft data engine in a truly operational fashion,” said Frank Cullen, principal with Blackstone & Cullen, an Atlanta-based database, data warehouse and business intelligence solution provider.

Solution providers also say a big impetus for qualifying employees is to earn points in Microsoft’s partner program. That may be one reason why it also came up big in the ability to generate new, incremental business, placing fourth.

“Customers don’t care at a macro level if you have X number of certifications, but if you’re at a particular partner status with Microsoft, they care that the individuals assigned to their project have certifications,” said Richard Warren, an IT consultant based in Winchester, Va.
