Sanjay Kumar Departs CA Amid Accounting Scandal
Kumar stayed on with CA as chief software architect but his stint was short-lived; in September, Kumar was indicted on federal charges of securities fraud, and he left the company for good soon after. In addition, CA was ordered to pay $225 million in restitution to the company's shareholders as a penalty for its unscrupulous business practices. CA tapped IBM veteran John Swainson to replaced interim CEO Kenneth Cron, hoping to give the software company a fresh start and fulfill on the promise of the company's technology, such as BrightStor for storage and eTrust for security.
While CA made some progress on that front in recent months -- the company acquired identity management vendor Netegrity in October and also inked new distribution deals with Access Distribution and Ingram Micro -- it has also suffered some blows, including layoffs. Swainson will no doubt have his work cut out for him in 2005.
