G-TECH: Hard-Drive Enclosures; Wi-Fi Card; Wi-Fi Tag
'System-On-a-Chip' Matches Needs Of Government And Health-Care Sectors
Thanks to technology the size of a matchbook, government officials and health-care administrators can keep tabs on everything from confidential data and artillery to medical supplies and pharmaceuticals. Ekahau's T301-A Wi-Fi tag tracks assets and people over any existing enterprise Wi-Fi network and includes two-way communication for remote management. This allows automatic wireless configuration, activation of the tag's buzzer and LEDs, and software updates. The tag includes two call buttons for triggering other applications, a tamper switch and motion sensor. Leveraging G2 Microsystems' System-on-a-Chip solution, the tag promises a battery life of up to five years. The product will be generally available in September through Ekahau and its authorized resellers worldwide. The U.S. list price for the T301-A will start at $50, with quantity discounts.
Either Ride Piggyback Or Fly Solo With New Wi-Fi Card
Motorola unveiled yet another sexy Wi-Fi offering with its WDE1000. The dual-band Wi-Fi card provides first-responders access to both the unlicensed 802.11b/g 2.4-GHz frequency and the licensed 4.9-GHz public-safety frequency through a standards-based Wireless Device Enabler, or WDE. It offers stable access to high-bandwidth applications, such as Web browsing, live streaming video, telemetry and mission-critical databases in the field. To ensure connectivity, the WDE1000 allows users to extend current networks or form their own ad hoc network with peer-to-peer communications when no access to a network infrastructure is available.
Data Safety In the Danger Zone
To ensure data integrity under the harsh conditions of military zones and first-response transport vehicles, Addonics Technologies released a new advanced family of hard-drive enclosures. The Jupiter enclosure series for 2.5-inch IDE hard drives includes a ruggedized, anodized aluminum housing and shock-mount technology to protect against vibration and falls. The enclosure is lightweight and compact, accommodating any manufacturer's 2.5-inch IDE hard drive with a height of 10 mm or less. Included with the offering is Jupiter Cipher, a choice of hardware encryption that works in real-time and is activated by the insertion of a physical cipher key into the enclosure.
