iPrism Stops Spyware Dead
The iPrism devices with the antispyware tool retail for $2,195; per-user licensing fees range from $3 to $10 a seat, depending on company size.
s dozens of security vendors rush to enter the enterprise antispyware market, St. Bernard Software has set its sights on the small-business sector, giving solution providers a new tool to tackle this plague.
Recently, the San Diego-based vendor unveiled new versions of its flagship iPrism M3000 and M1200 perimeter appliances with protection against spyware. While most competing antispyware devices sit inside the LAN, the new St. Bernard devices take a different approach, said Craig Smith, sales manager for the iPrism line.
“Most products wait until spyware is on the network before they deal with it,” he said. “With our products, we decided we didn’t want to allow for the malicious code to even make it past the perimeter.”
The iPrism devices sit inline with a firewall and inside the DMZ, stopping spyware, adware and other threats at the very moment the malicious programs attempt to cross over the corporate gateway, Smith said.
The devices are trained to identify spyware programs much like ordinary firewalls identify viruses, completely eliminating the possibility that one of these pernicious programs might wreak havoc inside the network, he said.

This kind of protection has impressed solution providers. Rich Wentz, vice president of sales for Intuitive Networks, Roosevelt, Calif., said he likes the iPrism products because they free up customers to focus on success.
“The beauty of this product is that it stops this stuff cold and reduces the potential for disaster almost immediately,” Wentz said. “In the small-business environment, these tools let businesses stop worrying about security and get back to running their business.”
