SBC/Cisco Catch a VoIP Ride With Ford
SBC will deploy a fully customized solution based on the its PremierSERVsm IP Telephony Advantage platform, using the Cisco Systems IP Communications system. The network is expected to include approximately 50,000 Cisco IP telephones, rolled out to users in 110 Ford facilities during a three-year period.
"The truth is, Ford, SBC and Cisco are unusually close. We've had so many meetings, it's hard to describe whose idea it even was," said Tom Archer, SBC vice president of sales, global markets, and one of the architects of the deal. "Ford is a very strong Cisco shop. Cisco is very strong in Michigan."
In a year when many VoIP engagements have been announced, this one stands out because, when completed, it will be one of the nation's largest VoIP deployments to date.
