Intel's AppUp Center/Atom Developer Program

Intel's AppUp Center, a netbook application hub for developers on the Intel Atom platform, brings the App Store model to the chip giant's ecosystem with its Intel AppUp Center. AppUp provides a platform for users to sell and distribute applications and components they've created using the Intel Atom Developer Program. Currently, the site offers limited-time free registration, a developer catalog featuring ready-made components to speed development, and programs to help build and validate your apps for netbooks. Intel says that future plans include expansion to include apps for other devices based on the Intel Atom CPUs, including smartphones and TVs. Supported operating environments include Windows and Moblin.

Planar Systems Touch-Screen Offerings

Bringing touch-screen displays to retail, health care and government/education applications, Planar Systems debuted the addition of two touch-screen displays to its product lineup. The newPA1575R touch-screen system and PT2275SW touch-screen LCD address the growing use of touch screens within these specialty markets. The 15-inch touch-screen computer on the PA1575R system is specifically designed for POS applications, accommodating a card swipe on the side. The thin profile touch-screen computer features Microsoft Windows XP or WePOS operating systems, a fanless 1-GHz Intel Celeron processor, 1 GB memory and a resistive touch screen that can be activated by a finger, gloved hand, credit card, pen or stylus. The Planar PT2275SW 22-inch-wide touch-screen LCD is geared toward smaller format digital signage applications or desktop applications requiring larger screen sizes, featuring surface acoustic wave technology. End-user enhancements include monitor adjustment from -5 to 90 degrees, a rugged desk stand and two-day replacement warranty.

Zoho currently offers support for multiple forums, moderators and gigabytes of attachments, and plans to offer free migration and customization services on a case-by-case basis.

Omnivex's newest version of its digital signage application, Moxie, is now compatible with Windows 7. Version 6.04 of Moxie delivers contextual media to audiences, taking advantage of the new Windows 7 video-processing capabilities by including intuitive user interfaces such as multitouch, security features, graphic hardware acceleration, support for multicore processing, power management and access administration for mobility. Any parameter such as size, position, opacity and color can be tied to realtime data; information can appear and change based on current events.

Geared toward personal electronics, the USB charger's small size makes it ideal for wireless communication, peripherals, networking, and portable and mobile equipment. The PSM03A adapter is designed to run with such applications as MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras and mobile phones while providing a fully regulated 5VDC output and a maximum no-load power consumption of less than 0.03 watts. Arctic Sound Audio Line

Arctic Cooling, designer of computer cooling systems, unveiled an audio line: the Arctic Sound. This brand-new series aims to provide a wide variety of audio products at different price classes. Among the earphone models are the High-End E300 Series and the Mid-Range E200 Series, featuring a powerful bass and clear vocals, respectively. Both the E300 and E200 series offer comfort fit, sound insulation with three sets of different-size soft silicone caps. The E361, E351, E231 and E221 (available in February) offer a microphone version for phone calls and online communications such as Skype and MSN voice call. An equipped plug offers compatibility with mobile phones, though an additional adapter cable is required to use the Arctic Sound earphones with Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung and LG mobile devices. Arctic Sound audio products also include Arctic Sound S Series, two categories of speakers planned for launch in the second quarter with other models following in the third and fourth quarters.
