Check Point Secures Without Wires
Published for the Week Of December 6, 2004
heck Point Software Technologies, an established player in the world of wired and wireless enterprise security, has moved downstream to help smaller businesses grapple with wireless security issues.
Check Point introduced Safe@Office 400W, a series of integrated wireless appliances based on the vendor’s VPN-1 technology that include an 802.11g wireless access point. The devices also boast a range of up to three times that of a regular access point, and feature speeds of up to 108 Mbps.
The devices extend into the wireless realm some of the SMB-friendly security functionality unveiled last year with the Safe@Office 100 and 200 series, said Ted Yueh, worldwide small-business marketing manager.
“With this announcement, Check Point now secures both the wired and wireless networks for SMBs,” Yueh said.
Safe@Office 400W works best for businesses with up to 100 employees, he said.

The new products focus on reliable Internet security, offering the same technology most of Check Point’s enterprise customers use, including e-mail antivirus, URL filtering, dynamic DNS, antispyware, reporting and security updates, Yueh said. They also include multiple high availability, failover capabilities and print server functions seldom found in small-business appliances, he said.
Zachary Schuler, president of CalNet Technology Group in Northridge, Calif., said such features should eliminate the need for his customers to spend money on additional solutions such as print servers and VPNs.
“From our bottom line as an integrator, this will be a very easy sell,” he said. “I also think we will be able to drive some service revenue out of this device, though implementation services will be minimal.”
Safe@Office 400W is available to Check Point channel partners now. Pricing is $499 to $1,999.
