Tech Data Promises 24-Hour PC Configuration

The configurations, which include hard drive and memory upgrades and installation of other components such as video and network cards, are available on Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Panasonic, Sony and Toshiba systems through the company's Swedesboro, N.J., logistics center.

"With schools closed for the summer, and#91;thisand#93; announcement is especially timely for resellers supporting the education market," said Barb Miller, vice president of government, technical and integration services at Tech Data, in a statement.

The 24-hour turnaround is available for orders of 50 or less systems and is part of Tech Data's TDIntegration services, which the distributor says can be more cost effective services for VARs than if the VARs do them themselves.

"and#91;Itand#93; enables resellers to do that much more, cost effectively, by offloading repetitive, time-consuming tasks like hardware inserts to us, as well as eliminating the need to touch and reship the products themselves. We do all that on their behalf, freeing reseller techs to be out in the field meeting contract obligations by installing these systems or generating billable hours elsewhere," Miller said in the statement.

A typical hardware insert starts around $10 to $15 depending on the hardware, and the price can fluctuate, depending on the number of units and hardware inserts, according to Tech Data.
