'Nervous' AT&T Starts Countdown For iPhone MMS Kick-Off

MMS

Apple unveiled an MMS feature in June, and MMS capability on the iPhone means iPhone users will be able to send photos, contacts, audio files and other content through the Messages application. iPhone users need to download an MMS update through iTunes.

AT&T's work to get iPhone MMS up and running was described as "rocky" in BroadbandDSLReports.com, which reported Wednesday that AT&T was "very nervous" about the launch.

BroadbandDSLReports.com quoted anonymous AT&T insiders as saying that AT&T is asking for hourly updates from MMS aggregator partners so they can troubleshoot as quickly as possible.

Comments posted to AT&T's Facebook page Thursday ranged from the sarcastic to the all-out mean, most reflecting the notion that MMS is long-overdue for iPhone. "Welcome to 2003 AT&T!" read one comment.
