Google Executives Say Increased Access To AI Agents, Capabilities Are Differentiators For Channel Partners

‘These innovations have helped, again, drive why Google Cloud is the premier destination for all data AI workloads,’ says Yasmeen Ahmad, managing director of data and analytics.

Google increasing access to a host of specialized artificial intelligence agents and new AI capabilities in BigQuery should aid solution providers looking to leverage the tech giant’s technology as part of their service offerings and in customer conversations around Google Cloud’s value proposition in data and AI.

Yasmeen Ahmad, managing director of data and analytics at the Mountain View, Calif.-based tech giant, told CRN during a virtual press conference that services partners were among the groups seeking broader Gemini data agent access.

“We are now putting that GenAI to work across the Google Cloud Platform to give the best possible destination experience for customers looking for an AI-first cloud,” she said. “These innovations have helped, again, drive why Google Cloud is the premier destination for all data AI workloads.”

Google Agent Access

Ryan Salva, senior director of product management at Google, added that the new tools should help the thousands of partners in the vendor’s ecosystem deliver software faster and at a higher quality than competitors.

“Just developing proficiency with the tools will help you achieve your business objectives and make a higher profit more easily,” Salva said.

With that, Google’s agents allow for additional IP development, custom prompt augmentation and specialized integrations that solution providers can leverage to differentiate themselves from the competition.

“For those folks who are building on top of GCP [Google Cloud Platform], I would say focusing on investment in building up the ecosystem and building out differentiation for your tools on top of the platform is going to give you a competitive edge against anyone else in the market,” he said.

Gemini CLI On GitHub Among New Agents

The specialized agents now in preview include Gemini CLI GitHub Actions, which can triage issues, accelerate pull request reviews and collaborate on demand to write tests and implement code, according to Google.

Google launched Gemini CLI in June as a free, open-source AI agent to bring Gemini into developer terminals. A previous integration with Microsoft-owned code repository GitHub focused on code reviews, Salva said during the virtual press conference. The new agent provides more general-purpose use cases, including automation events.

Salva also said the goal is to open Gemini CLI further so that developers can instantiate it as a container anywhere.

Another agent moved to preview is a data engineering agent in Big Query. The agent can speed up data preparation for faster pipeline building. A data science agent in BigQuery Notebooks promises to reduce infrastructure management for users.

A conversational analytics agent and code interpreter should allow business users and analysts to use natural language to ask for data insight. A migration agent for Spanner aims to ease database migrations, and a new API has the goal of allowing developers to embed conversational experiences into their applications, according to Google.

The preview of BigQuery’s AI query engine aims to allow data practitioners to interact and extract value from data through embedding generative AI capabilities into SQL. Hybrid search in BigQuery integrates Google semantic search with traditional keyword search.

Adaptive filtering in AlloyDB promises to improve vector queries automatically for better speed and recall. BigQuery also gained autonomous embeddings generation and indexing to aid with large-scale analytics.
