OpenAI Hires Former AWS Partner Sales Leader To Drive AI Channel Growth
OpenAI continues to hire top channel partner executives from cloud leaders like Google Cloud and AWS, including the recent hiring of its new partner director in charge of go-to-market.
OpenAI has hired former AWS partner sales leader Ignacio Guillen as its new partner director in charge of go-to-market for the AI superstar.
“At AWS, I helped businesses adopt cloud technology,” Guillen said in a LinkedIn post announcing his hiring.
“Over the past few months, I’ve been working with customers to apply AI across their businesses. I’m excited to bring that experience to OpenAI and continue working with customers and partners,” said Guillen, OpenAI’s new go-to-market partner director.
Guillen spent over eight years at AWS from 2018 until April 2026.
His most recent role was senior leader of partner sales for AWS’ commercial accounts.
Guillen also held AWS partner sales leadership and management roles around enterprise accounts, as well as SMB and startup accounts over his tenure.
He also has experience working at Google Cloud and Cisco Meraki. Guillen could not be reached for comment by press time.
OpenAI Hiring Cloud Channel Exec Talent; Launches OpenAI Partner Network
Guillen adds to OpenAI’s growing partner executive leadership team hailing from cloud providers like AWS and Google Cloud.
This year, Google Cloud’s global partner programs leader, Colleen Kapase, left to join OpenAI.
In addition, Google Cloud’s partner network managing director, Philip Larson, recently departed to join OpenAI.
Last month, OpenAI hired former Google and AWS executive Brian Kane as its new director of cloud partnerships.
This summer, OpenAI officially launched its flagship inaugural partner program: the OpenAI Partner Network.
OpenAI is initially investing $150 million in the channel with the launch of the OpenAI Partner Network to support and help partners bring the benefits of AI to more organizations more quickly.
The company plans to train and enable 300,000 certified consultants by the end of 2026.
AWS Partner CEO: Hirings Boost Partnership
Justin Copie, CEO of AWS partner Innovative Solutions, said OpenAI is making waves in the channel this year with the hiring of top talent and seeking partners to get skilled on OpenAI technology tied to cloud providers.
Copie believes it’s beneficial to have OpenAI partner executives who have top-notch experience working at cloud leaders like AWS and Google Cloud so they can hit the channel ecosystem ground running.
“We’re going to be building this OpenAI partnership with confidence,” Copie added.
Innovative believes these hires will help accelerate OpenAI and AWS’ integration strategy and form a stronger partnership versus the competition.
“For us, it’s all about OpenAI on [Amazon] Bedrock,” said Copie. “It’s exactly what customers have been asking for. We’re going to actually be releasing some things over the next few weeks with OpenAI specifically to start migrating those OpenAI workloads onto AWS versus Azure.”
Guillen’s Channel Career At Google, Eliza And Cisco Meraki
Over the past nearly two decades, Guillen has worked at companies including Google, Cisco Meraki and global manufacturer Venair Group in various sales and management roles.
In 2015, Guillen worked for Cisco Meraki as a channel sales account executive responsible for expanding Cisco’s market share in certain regions.
He later jumped to Google Cloud as an enterprise territory manager, receiving Google’s 2017 President’s Club award for his work.
Most recently, he did a brief stint at AI consulting and implementation startup Eliza.
“Thank you for the warm welcome to OpenAI,” Guillen said on LinkedIn. “Let’s get to work.”
