Altiris Adds Mac OS Support

The Lindon, Utah-based IT life-cycle management software vendor said Client Management Suite version 6.1 now has a range of Apple Macintosh-friendly components integrated into the suite's Inventory and Software Delivery Solutions. Mac OS X management features include a refreshed agent architecture, improved inventory scanning and new administrative tools that bring Mac clients running on the network under the Altiris management umbrella.

Native Mac OS X support, a componentized agent architecture and a client-side task browser all ship standard with version 6.1, according to Altiris.

The vendor also added a set of improved tools for Windows-based clients. Client Management Suite version 6.1 brings a new drag-and-drop scripting system called WiseScript, which automates manual coding through more than 50 executable tasks; improved software delivery and migration tools; and language localization in French, German, Spanish, Japanese and simplified Chinese.

In addition, Client Management Suite version 6.1 now offers support for IPv6, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, QuarkXpress, RIM Blackberry and other applications.

The full Client Management Suite 6.1 is slated to ship by the end of the second quarter. Pricing starts at $92 per node, and volume discounts are available, Altiris said.
