SAP Woos Oracle Customers, Partners To Midmarket Suite

Launched this past January, Safe Passage originally offered 75 percent credit toward purchase of its flagship mySAP ERP suite. Now Oracle customers can apply 75 cents of every licensing dollar they've spent toward SAP's midmarket suite.

The Walldorf, Germany applications vendor also invited Oracle's channel partners to sit at its table.

"The high level message goes out to potential small and midsize customers. But the message within that message goes out to Oracle's partners," said Michael Sotnick, senior vice president, Small an Midsize Business, SAP America. "This is an open invitation to talk to us if they have customers who are concerned about [Oracle's] Project Fusion story, and they don't want to lose those customers. We want to add more [of Oracle's partners] to our portfolio."

Project Fusion is Oracle's name for the forthcoming products that will meld the best features and technologies of its existing E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, J.D. Edwards EnterpriseOne and Retek. Earlier this month, Oracle launched its own migration program, called "Oracle Fusion for SAP," or OFFSAP.

Last May, SAP had said 10 customers had agreed to switch to mySAP ERP as a result of Safe Passage. The company is expected to release updated numbers next month, when it announces its second quarter results.

SAP timed its announcement to coincide with Oracle's fourth quarter and fiscal 2005 report, issued Wednesday.
