Plans call for Adobe and Ricoh to integrate Adobe Livecycle Policy Server and print and scan software with Ricoh multifunction products and printers. This will allow the printing and scanning of documents into a searchable PDF format, providing greater efficiency for knowledge workers as well as a more secure digital workflow, the companies said.

And Sharp Document Solutions Company of America, the Mahwah, N.J.-based copier and MFP unit of the global technology company, announced it is making its Open Systems Architecture publicly available for software developers and solution providers.

Sharp also is rolling out a new channel program to help solution providers attack the market with highly customized solutions for small businesses and enterprises. Sharp resellers and solution providers who were briefed on the OSA platform and channel plans responded favorably to the news, and several said it would provide a key differentiator between Sharp and rivals.

“This [adoption] is something that’s going to happen very fast,” said Luis Gonzalez, president of MOS Imaging Systems, a Miami-based Sharp dealer and developer of custom document software solutions. “The other thing we’re going to see is whoever is first is probably going to win.”
