The JBoss Group Secures $10 Million In First-Round Financing

Matrix Partners, with the participation of Accel Partners, led The JBoss Group's first round of funding, according to the company.

Matrix General Partner David Skok, who founded Java software vendor SilverStream Software, also joined The JBoss Group's board of directors. Novell completed the acquisition of SilverStream in July 2002.

The JBoss Group, Atlanta, said in a statement that the funds would support product development, build out infrastructure and facilitate marketing efforts.

The JBoss Group has carved out a niche for itself in the past several years among developers who like the flexibility of building applications on the open-source JBoss application server.

The company has taken steps in the past year to make the product more commercially viable by licensing J2EE from Sun Microsystems. It also launched a partner program in October 2003 to further encourage the delivery of services around the JBoss application server and open-source software in general.
