Security Wares On Tap

SecurityProfiling released an add-on to its patch management and vulnerability remediation product SysUpdate, called Policy Compliance and Enforcement (PCE).

SysUpdate PCE establishes network security policies and remotely enforces them across all computers and devices. In addition, PCE offers vulnerability remediation in which systems administrators can automatically disable or patch a device that is being attacked.

"With this add-on, users and solution providers are able to change security configurations on machines to make them more secure, and it adds the ability to perform workaround solutions using industry standards and templates for vulnerabilities as opposed to just deploying a patch," said Brett Oliphant, CTO of Lafayette, Ind.-based SecurityProfiling.

The company is also targeting the channel with a multitier channel program with discounts from 15 percent to 40 percent, as partners climb the various tiers from Bronze to Platinum.

At the Bronze level, partners are not expected to provide customer support, but Gold and Platinum providers gain steeper discounts and co-marketing and training resources.

SecurityProfiling plans to tap security solution provider ZNQ3's channel as the two companies prepare to start shipping a patch management appliance.

"It's a pre-hardened appliance that is designed to be simple and channel-friendly," said Terry Christensen, vice president of sales and business development at ZNQ3, Manchester, N.H. "It's also aligned with what customers want: a simple plug-and-play device for patch management as well as intrusion prevention and encryption."

Meanwhile, ArticSoft unveiled the latest version of its FileAssurity OpenPGP. The software now lets solution providers encrypt, digitally sign, zip and e-mail secure information with one click from Windows Explorer. Other options include secure zip archives and a secure text editor and encryption for PGP version 5 and above files.

The company is seeking partners with some security expertise, said Steve Mathews, CEO of ArticSoft, Glenwood, Md. The company, which began its push from its London-based headquarters into the United States earlier this year, has established a lead generation program and is training its sales staff to be channel managers, he said.

As far as margins, partners can expect better than the 8 percent to 10 percent they are getting from other security vendors, Matthews said. "We have to be aggressive on this point to stand out," he said.

In deals with government agencies demanding PGP solutions, CounterTrade Products is bringing in ArticSoft, said Joe Boglino, vice president of sales at the solution provider. The Arvada, Colo.-based company has already reaped the benefits of road shows and sharing a booth with ArticSoft.
