Veritas Embraces Linux Movement With New Products

The backup software maker also announced a series of Linux alliances with a number of companies including IBM, Intel, Red Hat, Dell Computer and Hewlett-Packard. In a prepared statement, Veritas CEO Gary Bloom called Linux "a strategic platform with immense growth opportunity."
Among the new products Veritas unveiled were Veritas Cluster Server, which is aimed at enterprise Linux environments, and Veritas ServPoint NAS, which transforms industry-standard hardware components into nonproprietary NAS file servers.
The company also announced its plans to develop software for Linux software for Oracle9i Real Application Clusters. That product is slated to be delivered in 2003.
Top executives from Intel and IBM joined in the announcement, held today at the Palace Hotel in New York.
