As the industry prepares for LinuxWorld Conference and Expo this week, IBM said its eServer for Linux and WebSphere offerings now support Qualcomm's Binary Run-Time Environment for Wireless (BREW) extranet platform.

IBM says the deal will expand the development of wireless Web applications on Linux.

The Qualcomm BREW system, supported by Verizon Wireless and other carriers globally, allows users to download applications over the air with revenue being split among the carrier, the application developer and Qualcomm.

In late November, Qualcomm unveiled the third major release of its BREW client software and BREW software development kit for application developers.
