enKoo Readies Remote-Access Appliance
Designed for fewer than 1,000 clients, the enKoo appliance provides browser-based, 128-bit SSL-encrypted remote access to any file on a network, including e-mail, said Ajit Deora, CEO of enKoo, Fremont, Calif. "One application allows remote access to any file you would normally access in the network neighborhood, including Unix file servers," he said.
An installation wizard configures the enKoo appliance in less than 30 minutes, without having to add individual client software, a repository server or a new IT administrator, Deora said.

EnKoo's Ajit Deora says the appliance can access any file on a network.
Early adopters of enKoo's appliance say it frees SMBs from having to deploy enterprise-level remote client technology, such as Citrix or Microsoft Terminal Services.
Frank Griffith, CEO of Griffith Holdings, a service provider in Medina, Ohio, installed the enKoo appliance at a 40-year-old heating and air conditioning company that had to upgrade all its Windows 98/NT PCs to Windows 2000 to deploy Terminal Services.
"That would have taken six months and cost about $50,000 when you take into account software licenses and server hardware," he said. "They were growing and needed remote access. So we introduced them to enKoo and had it deployed for about $2,000, which was the cost of the appliance, including our fees."
Faramarz Mahdavi, CEO of Pylon Solutions, an enKoo partner in San Ramon, Calif., said he resells enKoo, plus he uses it to access managed-customer sites, which reduces his travel.
