Adlib Reimages The Document
The latest version of Adobe Acrobat can restrict users' access rights via embedded passwords and date expirations. Adlib Express takes advantage of those features through dynamic watermarks, which are useful when creating stamps in secured PDF documents. For instance, when a document is printed, a watermark can inform users that the document is only available until a specified date. The program also can mark the name of a user who opened a document in the header so others know who has accessed the file or from where it originated.

Adlib Express builds a set of external input and output folders to organize file conversions from multiple sources. The server scans input folders and converts any new entries according to its conversion settings. It also can be programmed to ignore particular file types, which is useful when an input folder is in the same location as an output folder.
Adlib Express has a built-in scheduler that runs all the configurations sequentially at any specified time. Currently, there is no way to modify the process sequence by changing the time on a configuration, so the server simply cycles all the configurations, similar to a batch run. To avoid overwriting, date and time stamps can be added to converted file names. This is useful when processing input files with the same name.
The server can be added to any content management solution because it can link directly with workflow processes using its folder structures or directly through DPI-XML job tickets. Most content management servers generate tickets on their own, and administrators can easily format the tickets to match Adlib Express' configuration files.
Adlib Express also can be integrated with other packages that convert documents to PDFs, such as Kofax's Ascent Xtrata software. The server provides value-added features such as automatic metadata insertion, the merging of documents from multiple sources, creation of hyperlinks in front of compound document collections, and the use of dynamic watermarks, custom bookmarks and naming structures.
Adlib has a three-tier channel program that offers varying levels of technical support, co-op marketing initiatives and discounted pricing. A solution provider Web site is planned.
The average margin on Adlib Express is 27.5 percent, and the product as tested costs $2,500.
