Twitter Can Follow Your Every Move
Twitter is "excited" about the new upcoming feature that will provide "accurate, tweet-level location data so you could switch from reading the tweets of accounts you follow to reading tweets from anyone in your neighborhood or city," the company boasted on its blog.
Twitter gives an example that the geolocation feature means you'll know where someone is at a concert or on a more serious note, an earthquake, although it remains unclear whether you'll still have service to tweet in case of such an unfortunate event.
But users can find the longitude and latitude of the spa where you're getting your toenails clipped. But isn't it narcissistic enough that people can tweet about getting a pedicure in the first place?
"There will likely be many use cases we haven't even thought of yet which is part of what makes this so exciting," Twitter said on its blog.
Tweeters can opt out of the location finder---it's turned off by default, and the exact location won't be stored for an "extended period of time," Twitter said.
Fake tweet locations may also be an issue. Twitter has had several incidences---especially involving celebrities---where phony tweets have been posted under their names. Who's to say that won't happen when Joe Schmoe says that Angelina Jolie has been sighted on Main Street?
