Apple Releases iTunes LP, Extras With Apple TV Version 3.0

The free Apple TV software touts a revamped menu designed to streamline users' searches and better access what they want.

Perhaps the most significant update to the Apple TV version 3.0 release was the much anticipated iTunes Extras and iTunes LP. With iTunes Extras, users get access to special features for movies offered in the iTunes Store, such as deleted scenes, outtakes, cast interviews and "making of" clips. Users can access full-screen viewing with a simple software upgrade.

Meanwhile, iTunes LP enables users to view information corresponding with certain songs -- much in the same way that a CD cover or LP record jacket would. iTunes LP goodies include liner notes, lyrics, performance videos, bios and other memorabilia.

In addition, Apple is also offering its users the ability to listen to thousands of Internet radio stations streamed through Apple TV, which allows users to tag content for listening at a later time.

Apple TV version 3.0 also features a new Genius Mix option, which enables users to listen to up to 12 continuous mixes of songs from their iTunes library that "go great together." Like a personal iPod mix, users can rearrange any number of songs to their liking.

"The new software for Apple TV features a simpler and faster interface that gives you instant access to your favorite content," Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services, said in a statement. "HD movies and HD TV shows from iTunes have been a huge hit with Apple TV customers, and with Apple TV 3.0 they get great new features including iTunes Extras, Genius Mixes and Internet radio."
