Start Button Returns (Sort Of) In Microsoft's Windows Blue

The "new" Start button will provide access to the Start Screen but not include the traditional Start Menu, according to The Verge website.

The news might be a welcome change for solution providers trying to sell Windows 8 to customers. At Synnex's Varnex show in Orlando last week, several solution providers told CRN that Windows 8 is a tough sell due to all the training involved for customers because it's such a radical shift from previous versions of Windows.

One of those solution providers, Paul Benson, president of Virtual Communication Specialists in Athens, Texas, said Microsoft needed to take steps to help VARs around Windows 8.

"I have been using Windows 8 for a while now, and I am use to it; however, it is a struggle for traditional Windows users who are not grasping the concept that the Start screen is your Start Menu," Benson said. "I could see how bringing back that traditional Start button would help some users or eliminate some of the training time. But, I still feel that it would not be needed with proper training as this is the case with most new products that change your experience."

Details of Windows Blue started leaking over the last month, with other projected improvements to include built-in apps and a customizable look that includes smaller tile arrangements, more color personalization and multitasking views in Windows 8 mode, according to reports.
