Naveego Expands Data Quality Offering, Touts Big Data Management Opportunities For Partners

Big data startup Naveego has debuted a new release of DQS, the vendor's cloud-based data quality management software, with capabilities that help businesses and solution providers synchronize and clean up huge volumes of data spread out across disparate systems.

Executives of the Traverse City, Mich.-based company say the DQS software, along with its master data management software, provides opportunities for solution providers to expand their work with customers' big data management and business analytics projects.

"There's an overwhelming need for a simple data quality solution," said Derek Smith, Naveego CEO and co-founder, in an interview with CRN. "Organizations are increasingly seeking simpler solutions for data quality, integration and management without the high cost and complexity of legacy offerings that were never architected for the cloud."

As businesses and organizations amass and process ever-larger volumes of data, often across disparate IT systems and applications, maintaining data quality has become a major challenge.

An industry rule-of-thumb is that it takes $1 to verify a record when it's entered, $10 to cleanse it later and $100 to fix problems created by an uncorrected record. IBM calculated that in the U.S. alone poor data quality cost businesses and organizations $1.3 trillion in 2016.

The market for data quality management tools is expected to grow from $610 million this year to $1.3 billion by 2022, according to a Research and Markets report.

Naveego markets its cloud-based data quality and master data management software as an antidote for poor-quality data by integrating, cleansing and managing data in disparate, siloed systems – both on premise and in the cloud – and improving data accuracy and consistency.

The company is shipping a new release of Naveego DQS with a number of new capabilities and enhancements. Topping the list is the new cross-system data comparison functionality that can compare data in two different systems, such as an internal SQL database and

Also new is an application and data system health dashboard that provides a central overview of the quality of applications, data and processes. The new release leverages new big data technology for working with massive data sets and allows users to write SQL against non-SQL data sets. Finally, the new DQS offers "templated" quality checks for quickly creating and executing standard quality checks throughout an organization.

Naveego initially focused on the oil and gas industry for its products, but has been expanding into health-care, telecommunications and manufacturing markets.

Stonebridge Consulting, a Tulsa, Okla.-based solution provider that provides business process and technology consulting services to the oil and gas industry, has been a Naveego partner for several years. Stonebridge uses Naveego's software as part of the services it offers customers and also implements the vendor's software as part of customers' master data management and data warehouse projects, said Amy Moore, a Stonebridge managing director.

Naveego's software is a core component of Stonebridge's EnerHub platform for oil and gas data management.

As for the new release of DQS: "We're anxious to get a hold of it and get it out to our clients," said Steve Molsberry, a Stonebridge principal consultant. The new release makes it easier to go beyond just identifying data quality problems to "operationalize" data quality improvement as part of ongoing business processes, he said. And the new template capability makes it easier to set up repeatable data quality rules, he said.

Naveego has been working with solution providers in the vendor's targeted vertical markets who combine the software with their industry expertise to develop data quality checks for their customers, said Mike Dominick, Naveego's chief product officer and vice president of partner success, in the CRN interview.

"We see a lot of success among our partners who [use the Naveego software] to get into their customers' business intelligence and data management projects," Dominick said. "The partners are really maintaining the relationship with the clients [and] they bring the knowledge and business processes of the vertical industries."
