Former Nimble CEO Becomes New Leader Of Open-Source Container Vendor Sysdig

Former Nimble Storage president and CEO Suresh Vasudevan Tuesday become the new president and CEO of Sysdig, maker of an open-source container intelligence platform. The appointment comes one year after Hewlett Packard Enterprise completed its $1.2 billion acquisition of all-flash storage vendor Nimble.

Vasudeva, a storage industry veteran, led Nimble for six years from 2011 during its startup days, through its acquisition by HPE in April, 2017. The company went public during that time, issuing an IPO in 2013. Prior to Nimble, he served as CEO of server and storage vendor at Omneon and served as senior vice president and general manager of the networked storage and manageability group at NetApp as part of a 10-year tenure there.

"[Sysdig] has unlocked a new data source at the heart of applications and created a unified platform that solves both security and monitoring challenges," said Vasudevan in a statement. "No other platform can offer something so elegant and powerful."

San Francisco-based Sysdig leverages open-source technology to give customers information for container visibility, security and troubleshooting. Sysdig, which has raised around $50 million in funding, owns a platform that currently monitors and secures millions of containers across hundreds of enterprises, according to a company statement. The platform unifies Docker monitoring, container security, and forensics with native Kubernetes and Prometheus integration, according to the company.

Sysdig was founded in 2013 by Loris Degioanni, who was previously senior director of technology for Riverbed Technology. Degioanni is stepping aside as CEO to make way for Vasudevan and will continue to lead the company's product strategy in his new role as CTO of Sysdig.

"Enterprises are moving to new container platforms to increase productivity and to create competitive advantage," said Degioanni, in a statement. "Any big move like that comes with risk. Our container intelligence platform eliminates that risk by giving developers and ops teams the visibility and security they need without the complexity or costs associated with legacy approaches. I look forward to working with Suresh to continue to grow Sysdig and deliver the solutions our customers need in order to be successful in scaling, securing, and managing their modern infrastructure."
