Gupta Fills Gap Between Windows And Linux

SQLBase version 9.0 enables independent software vendors (ISVs) and VARs to embed the Linux relational database into business applications. The Redwood Shores, Calif., company said the product also would free VARs and ISVs of complex licensing conditions, installation problems and complex technical support issues.

"An existing customer can simply install the SQLBase engine, copy over the database files from a Microsoft Windows environment, and have their solution up and running in just a few hours," Charles Stevenson, chief technology officer for Gupta, said. "This provides a whole new market for our ISVs and VARs while allowing corporate customers to reduce costs and take advantage of the reliability of Linux on the server side."

SQLBase version 9.0 comes in standard and encrypted versions. A trial version is available through the company's Web site.
