EU Gives Oracle Green Light To Acquire PeopleSoft
The EU had based much of its examination of the Oracle-PeopleSoft battle on the U.S. Department Of Justice's work in the case and when the San Francisco ruling went against the DOJ position.
The announcement was made by the EU's chief spokesman, Reijo Kemppinen, and not by the EU's Competition Directorate.
Oracle must now deal with various executive golden parachute and product rebate issues before the merger can be consummated.
Earlier this month another major hurdle to the merger was cleared when Peoplesoft's CEO Craig Conway was removed from his position. Conway is a former Oracle executive and his presence at PeopleSoft and his personality conflict with Oracle founder and chief executive Larry Ellison was viewed as a roadblock to the merger after the San Francisco decision.
