PeopleSoft's Duffield Resigns

The resignation is not unexpected. When Oracle announced the successful takeover of its 18-months long object of desire, it had said none of PeopleSoft's seven board members would serve in the combined company.

Duffield returned as CEO Oct. 4, 2004, after PeopleSoft's board had fired then-CEO Craig Conway three days earlier.

Oracle, of Redwood Shores, Calif., has said it expects to close the deal in early January. PeopleSoft's executives had previously told its employees they expected the deal to close by Dec. 31, 2004.
