Pass the Plate App Streamlines Charity Donations Just in Time for Giving Tuesday

There’s Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday – but by the time the week after Thanksgiving gets rolling, many may have forgotten Giving Tuesday – the day focused on charity donations. A brand new mobile app, Pass the Plate, launched Tuesday with the goal of streamlining the donation process.

Graham Treakle presented the new app at an event at the IBM Innovation Center in Cambridge, Mass., and he pointed out the lack of ease in the donation process. Many nonprofits ask for physically mailed checks, and working out the paperwork around tax season can be an added hassle.

Pass the Plate has ’centralized’ the giving process, allowing users to create an account and give instantly.

’You can download an application today, at on your iPhone or on your Android phone, and you can give to any of the 1.5 million nonprofits in America,’ Treackle said.

Pass the Plate collected nonprofit information directly from the IRS, so all nonprofits have been vetted for fraud. The app allows users to search through nonprofits and track donations throughout the year.

Treackle estimates that the nonprofit sector represents $360 billion a year, and 15 percent to 20 percent of that money is used to raise more money.

Pass the Plate is available for download in the iTunes and Android app stores.
