Sherweb Co-CEO: ‘We’re Focused On Being The Go-To Partner For Everything Microsoft’

‘Whether it’s around AI, cybersecurity or business continuity, we’re focused on helping our partners stay competitive in a rapidly changing market,’ says Matthew Cassar, Sherweb co-founder and co-CEO.

Canadian distributor Sherweb recently acquired Irish cloud provider MicroWarehouse to further expand its global presence and to double down its efforts in assisting MSPs with Microsoft environments.

“Our roadmap includes a heavy focus on AI, particularly around Microsoft Copilot and the integration of cybersecurity solutions,” Sherweb’s co-founder and co-CEO, Matthew Cassar, told CRN. “MicroWarehouse’s proficiency in these areas complements our plans to enable our partners to implement AI and cybersecurity solutions effectively. The acquisition provides the scale necessary for us to invest more in these technologies, both in Europe and North America.”

MicroWarehouse will continue to operate as a distinct business unit in Ireland, preserving its brand identity while tapping into Sherweb’s resources and expertise. The collaboration aims to enhance the range of products and services offered to clients and open new growth opportunities for both organizations.

Just under 40 MicroWarehouse employees came over in the deal, which was announced last week. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This acquisition also marks a significant step in Sherweb’s journey toward strengthening its global position as a premier cloud provider for MSPs as it looks ahead to 2025.

“We’ve been really impressed with the training and education that MicroWarehouse has developed around Microsoft workloads, and we plan to share these resources with our partners,” Cassar said. “Whether it’s around AI, cybersecurity or business continuity, we’re focused on helping our partners stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.”

CRN spoke further with Cassar about the acquisition, global expansion and what the distributor will be focusing on in the new year. Check out the interview below.

What attracted Sherweb to Micro Warehouse?

We’ve been looking to expand outside North America for some time, and we wanted to be deliberate about choosing the right partner. After engaging with multiple companies and considering both timing and fit, Micro Warehouse stood out as the perfect match. It made sense for both parties. This is our first acquisition outside of North America. It’s also our first significant investment in Europe, marking a new chapter for Sherweb’s global expansion.

How will the acquisition help Sherweb expand its footprint in Europe, particularly in Ireland?

In the short term, our primary focus is on seamlessly integrating MicroWarehouse into Sherweb’s operations. We want to ensure that our capabilities, services, products and systems, are available to both the Irish market and our North American customers. MicroWarehouse has a strong presence in the Irish cloud market and we see immense potential to expand those capabilities across Europe. This acquisition will also enable us to better serve North American clients with European operations, many of whom have expressed interest in working with us outside of North America.

Will this acquisition help Sherweb in the longer term as well, particularly with your 2025 roadmap?

MicroWarehouse is a strong Microsoft partner, and their expertise aligns closely with Sherweb's goals for 2025. Our roadmap includes a heavy focus on AI, particularly around Microsoft Copilot, and the integration of cybersecurity solutions. MicroWarehouse’s proficiency in these areas complements our plans to enable our partners to implement AI and cybersecurity solutions effectively. The acquisition provides the scale necessary for us to invest more in these technologies, both in Europe and North America.

How will the acquisition support innovation in AI, cybersecurity and business continuity?

The integration of MicroWarehouse gives us increased scale, which enables us to invest more in these critical areas. As we continue to develop professional services for our MSP partners, whether it's for AI implementation or cybersecurity, we'll be able to leverage MicroWarehouse’s expertise, particularly in Microsoft-focused training. Many MSPs are still building their capabilities in these areas, so the more resources we can provide, the better. This acquisition ensures that our partners, both in North America and Europe, have access to the tools and training they need to meet the growing demand for AI and cybersecurity services.

How much of Sherweb’s current business is European?

Following the MicroWarehouse acquisition, we estimate that around 20 percent of our business will come from European partners, with Ireland being a key focus.

What new opportunities can Sherweb partners expect as a result of this acquisition?

For our partners, this acquisition opens up new opportunities in Europe. Many of our North American partners have expressed interest in expanding into Europe, and now we can support them in doing so. We’ve been really impressed with the training and education that MicroWarehouse has developed around Microsoft workloads, and we plan to share these resources with our partners. Whether it’s around AI, cybersecurity or business continuity, we’re focused on helping our partners stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.

Looking ahead, are there other markets or technologies Sherweb is considering for future acquisitions?

In the short term, our focus is on successfully integrating MicroWarehouse and serving their customer base. Long term, we’re keeping an eye on more opportunities in Europe, particularly in the UK. Beyond that, we’re always looking for strategic opportunities to expand our global reach. Our main goal is to ensure we continue investing in the technologies and markets that align with our partners’ needs and future growth, particularly in the areas of AI and cybersecurity.

How does Sherweb differentiate itself from other distributors in the space?

What sets Sherweb apart is our commitment to service. While many distributors focus on adding more vendors or enhancing their online marketplace, we distinguish ourselves by fostering strong relationships. We believe in providing hands-on support to our MSP partners, offering pre-sales and post-sales guidance to help them build profitable solutions. Our partners consistently tell us that they appreciate the personalized service and the value we provide beyond just the products we distribute.

What is your message to partners as we approach 2025?

My message to our partners is that Sherweb will continue to invest in innovation and growth. We’re focused on being the go-to partner for everything Microsoft, especially in areas like AI and cybersecurity. As we expand our global presence, we’re dedicated to ensuring our partners’ success and providing the resources they need to thrive in an increasingly digital and competitive world.
