Mission-Critical M&A: Government-Focused SAIC To Acquire SilverEdge

SAIC plans to acquire SilverEdge for $205 million in cash as a way to beef up its support of mission-critical national security initiatives through the addition of a wide range of AI and digital transformation capabilities.

Solution provider SAIC Monday said it will expand its mission-critical security capabilities through a planned acquisition of SilverEdge Government Solutions in a $205 million cash deal.

Reston, Va.-based SAIC, formally known as Science Applications International Corp., is a leading technology integrator focused on supporting mission-critical government operations across the world. The company, whose customers include defense, space, intelligence and civilian agencies, has annual revenue of about $7.5 billion from a team of 24,000 employees, according to its website.

Columbia, Md.-based SilverEdge, currently owned by private equity firm Godspeed Capital, offers a wide range of technologies and services for AI, cybersecurity, digital transformation, intel and data analysis, and specialized digital systems design.

SilverEdge also offers a SaaS product suite called SOAR, which provides fully-customizable software solutions based on customer specifications via commercial marketplaces.

The company most recently introduced MynAI, which it calls a fully-managed GenAI platform engineered to meet the complex needs of U.S. Government agencies. MynAI was built specifically to provide AI-based secure, compliant, and mission-aligned operations without the need for specific infrastructure, tuning or upfront investment, the company said.

SAIC said the acquisition will enhance SAIC’s ability to deliver real-time, mission-critical solutions that support national security.

“SOAR delivers agile, low-risk and rapid prototyping products that align with our enterprise growth strategy to provide integrated digital solutions to our customers that tackle national priorities,” said SAIC CEO Toni Townes-Whitley in a prepared statement. “They share our commitment to advancing national security missions with speed, and together, we will deliver an expanded suite of products and commercial technologies to help the Department of War and Intelligence Community achieve their most critical objectives.”

The U.S. Department of War is also known as the Department of Defense.

SAIC did not respond to a CRN request for more information as of press time.

SilverEdge is itself the product of multiple acquisitions. The company in mid-2022 was given its current name when Godspeed Capital Management brought together three other technology solution providers: Varen Technologies, Exceptional Software Strategies and Savli Group.

SilverEdge in early 2023 also acquired Gardetto Engineering, an engineering services company specializing in digital design, hardware design, and systems engineering.
