Sun Announces New Version Of Java System Instant Messaging

The new product also includes new privacy controls, and the company claims it is significantly easier to use. Sun also said it is developing a wider network of IM partners, including Clique Communications which is working to integrate Sun Java System Instant Messaging with Clique Video Messenger.

"Instant messaging and presence awareness are powerful communication and collaboration tools for both standalone applications abd as the foundation for a wide-range of real-time applications," said Sun group marketing manager Mayank Choudhary. He added that the company's support for XMPP will help customers build new real-time applications.

The new release of Java System Instant Messaging has a focus on privacy and regulatory compliance that includes privacy controls and partner integrations. Access permissions and privacy profile controls enable users to control information about their presence and availability.

An agreement between Sun Java System Instant Messaging and ArcMentor offers user the ability to archive, monitor, retrieve and analyze instant messaging content that includes both messages and files that are transferred through the IM system.
