Palm Licenses RIM Software For Enterprise E-mail
Starting early next year, Treos running the Palm OS will use the RIM system to connect Palm's VersaMail email client with Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino, both enterprise email systems. In addition BlackBerry Connect provides calendar synchronization, search for corporate email directories and email-attachment viewing.
For security, Connect supports triple DES encryption, and policy enforcement and commands, such as remotely disabling or deleting email and data from a personal information manager in a device that's lost or stolen.
BlackBerry Connect will be available for the Treo 650 through select wireless carriers. Pricing and distribution details would be released later. The announcement was made at the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo 2005 conferfence in Orlando, Fla. Palm is based in Sunnyvale, Calf., and RIM is headquartered in Canada.
