Apple Updates Mac OS X To 10.4.4

unveiled its first Intel-powered Mac servers

On Tuesday, Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.4, the edition that runs the new Intel iMacs and when it releases next month, will power the MacBook Pro notebook line as well.

The Mac OS X 10.4.4 client update includes improvements to Apple's Safari Web browser, adds a number of new widgets -- including one for Google searches -- adds features to iChat, and resolves problems in .Mac synchronization sessions.

A separate update to 10.4.4 is available for Apple xServe systems. That upgrade is a general reliability and compatibility update, Apple said, with fixes for issues related to Open Directory, G4 systems' rebooting, and SSH authentication.

Both updates also integrate all security fixes rolled out since Apple released Mac OS X 10.4.3 in July 2005.
