Apple Stops Selling 17-inch iMac G5
The 17-inch iMac G5, which last week was still selling for $1,299 -- although the projected ship time was measured in weeks -- has disappeared from the Apple Web site and both the U.S. and U.K. versions of its online store.
Shortly after Apple launched its Intel-powered iMacs on Jan. 10, company executives said that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company would continue selling older models only as long as supplies lasted. Tim Cook, Apple's chief operating officer, estimated that Apple had 4-5 weeks' worth of systems in stock.
Last week, Apple lowered the price of the 20-inch iMac G5 from $1,699 to $1,499.
Some resellers still have the 17-inch iMac G5 in stock, including online retailer Amazon.com, which prices the computer at $1,175 after a $125 mail-in rebate.
