3Com Shakes Up Sales Organization

3Com this week tapped a new head of worldwide sales and marketing in its quest to better align its go-to-market strategy and improve overall visibility.

The Marlborough, Mass.-based networking company named Robert Dechant as senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. The move marks the integration of 3Com's sales and marketing arms, which previously operated as independent groups inside the company. Dechant replaces James Fieger as head of the worldwide sales organization.

Dechant, whose first day at 3Com was Tuesday, most recently led sales and marketing at supply chain solution provider ModusMedia (now ModusLink) and previously worked at IBM selling to resellers, systems integrators and enterprise customers.

As part of the broader reorganization announced this week, 3Com also tapped Dan Beck to head the newly created position of senior vice president of operations. Beck, who also hails from ModusLink where he led North American operations, will be charged with streamlining internal processes around front-end logistics, procurement, and back-end services and support, according to the company.
