It's Official: More Than 100 Million Users Call On Skype
Noting that the figure was reached in just two and one half years, Skype co-founder and CEO Niklas Zennstrom said in a statement: "Skype has grown in leaps and bounds by making it simple for anyone across the world with an Internet connection to do something they could not do before – talk for as long as they like, to whomever they like for no cost."
The VoIP firm was bought last September for $2.6 billion by eBay Inc., which noted that Skype's user base has nearly doubled in that time period. Skype offers free software for free calls between Skype users. A small charge of less than three cents a minute is leveled for Skype callers calling non-Skype people.
