Technology conference producer Stardust.com was in the giving mood this holiday season, so the company decided to waive the $895 admission fee to its networking conference last month. All attendees had to do was show a pink slip at the entrance.

CDN--The Content Networking Event, held in Los Gatos, Calif., in early December, opened its doors to all recently laid-off IT professionals, offering free admission to "aid colleagues and customers who have recently received pink slips." Thus, the show offered technology networks as well as job

"Stardust's intention is to provide a public service by supporting the continuing education of our friends and colleagues in the emerging technology space and also provide them with a great networking opportunity," said Stardust's president Karen Milne in a press statement.

No word yet from Stardust.com on how many people attended CDN for free, or if any of them got a new gig out of the show. Although we commend the generous action, we're probably not alone when we say we hope this doesn't become a new trend.
