Digital River Takes Over Freemerchant.com's Customers

The e-commerce ASP paid $875,000 in cash for 3,000 subscription customers of Network Commerce subsidiary Freemerchant.com. The deal also gives Network Commerce an opportunity to garner revenue from the acquired customers over the next 10 months.

The acquisition brings Digital River's customer base to 13,000 SMB and enterprise businesses.

In October 2001, Digital River acquired two solution providers, Orbit Commerce and RegSoft.com.

The ASP plans to announce its year-end financial results on Jan. 29. During its third-quarter call with analysts, Digital River CEO Joel Ronning said the company anticipates a loss of 10 cents per share on sales of $57.6 million, prior to goodwill amortization, for the year.
