New Portal Technology Expected At CA World

In a kickoff preview, Maner said that "visual management capabilities with web tools and technology" will be a big focus for both storage and security.

In every single CA World announcement "you are going to feel that web-centric vision," said Maner.

CA will support both Microsoft's .Net and Sun Microsystems' SunOne, he said.

"We believe the world is going to be free and hybrid," he said of the battle between .Net and SunOne. "You are going to see both .Net and Java." He predicted that in the next 12- 18 months web services will be pervasive in Fortune 500 companies.

"We believe that as an independent software vendor CA is the best positioned company to provide both development and deployment solutions for web services, to create them, as well as once they are created to manage them," he said. "Proprietary vendors, Microsoft, Sun and IBM, are trying to build an application development community, a community so they can sell more of their own tools."
