Xerox Phaser 6250 Blasts Precursor
Last year, Xerox unveiled the Phaser 6200 single-pass color laser printer. CRN Test Center engineers reviewed the product and found its performance so impressive that they chose it for a CRN Product Of The Year Award. No other color laser printer in its class could output pages as quickly,until now, that is.
This week, Xerox plans to introduce the Phaser 6250, a new and improved version of its predecessor. The high-performance color laser printer, targeted at SMB users, cranks up the printing speed dramatically without hiking the price point.
The Phaser 6250 prints up to 26 ppm in color or monochrome at 2,400 x 600 dpi resolution. A 10-page monochrome Word document took the Phaser 6250 about 35 seconds to print, and the first page was done in 13 seconds. A 10-page Word document featuring color headings took 43 seconds to print, with the first page again out in 13 seconds. The Associates file from the Spencer and Associates printer test suite printed in just 19 seconds, while a color photo of a castle took 27 seconds to print.
Xerox's older Phaser 6200 took 52 seconds to print the 10-page monochrome Word document and 48 seconds to print the Word document with color headings. In both cases, it took about 15 seconds for the first page to be completed. The 6200 took 39 seconds to print the Associates test suite file and 1 minute and 32 seconds to print the castle image.
Despite making hefty speed gains, the Phaser 6250's image quality is very good. The unit's input trays combine for a total of 600 sheets, and the product rated for a monthly duty cycle of 100,000 pages. Like the 6200, the Phaser 6250 doesn't take 11 x 17-inch paper. But it retains its older brother's compact size. The Phaser 6250 weighs 80 pounds and measures 17.5 x 17.3 x 23.2 inches. Toner cartridges come preinstalled.
Better still, the Phaser 6250 costs $2,499, keeping it in the same price level as the 6200.
