Opsware Reports Earnings, Unveils Japanese Edition

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based utility computing firm Tuesday unveiled the Japanese edition of Opsware System 4, a software package that enables data center automation across an enterprise.

Ben Horowitz, Opsware president and CEO, said the Opsware System 4 software will be available for immediate resale by NEC and other Opsware channel partners.

"International demand and revenue growth are strong," Horowitz said. "This new release demonstrates our firm commitment to servicing this fast-growing region."

Highlights of the new Opsware product include the ability to run the system on Red Hat Linux 7.3 Japanese and Oracle 9i Japanese; the ability to automate a range of Japanese platforms, such as servers running Japanese versions of Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, HP-UX, AIX and Red Hat Linux; and the ability to automate Japanese versions of all software infrastructure and applications.

The product also delivers a complete set of Opsware automation features, including system provisioning, application deployment, patching, configuration management, data center synchronization, and asset and operations reporting.

The product release came a week after Opsware reported preliminary financial results for its 2004 fiscal fourth quarter and full year. For the the three-month period ended Jan. 31, the company posted revenue of $6.2 million. For the year ended Jan. 31, Opsware reported sales of $18 million.

Horowitz and Opsware co-founder Marc Andreessen said that for the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2005, they expect the company to double its revenue, to between $35 million and $37 million.
