Free HP Print Driver Lets Mobile Devices Print From Any Network Printer

Hewlett Packard

Available for use with any HP Postscript-enabled laser printer, the HP Mobile Printing Driver lets mobile workers select any printer on a network by entering its network identifier or IP address. The company also is providing a plug-in that IT managers can use to post a printer's IP address on the network, making it easier for visitors to identify and print to a particular device.

Also on Monday, HP unveiled three print drivers designed to help workgroups easily share network-capable printers over 802.11b wireless networks.

HP's Jetdirect380x is aimed at small workgroups and includes a USB port, while the 680n provides enhanced input/output capabilities (EIO) connectivity slots in 802.11b wireless environments. Both printers also offer wireless security by supporting the 802.1x authentication methods and dynamic encryption.

HP's third new print server, the 615n, allows workgroups to share network printers with EIO slots across the network and over the Internet in Fast Ethernet environments, the company said. The print server printer adds embedded Web servers to securely transmit and receive content and e-services from the Internet.
