Microsoft Launches SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Into Beta

The SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services beta was made available to partners at the partner conference on Friday. The tool will give solution providers and ISVs a powerful business intelligence tool for accessing real-time information from any data source to any device, Microsoft said.

The company originally planned to integrate the reporting services into "Yukon," its next generation database and planned information storage repository for all Microsoft servers in 2004.

However, Yukon has slipped a few times. Microsoft expects to release another "private beta " of Yukon at PDC later this month but the mainstream beta won't be out until the first half of 2004.

Like SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, a valid SQL Server 2000 license is required for each server on which reporting services is deployed, Microsoft said
