Philips To Reorganize U.S. Business Unit

As part of the reorganization, Philips will move its Atlanta-based PC monitor operations to Colorado Springs, Colo., which is currently the base of operations for its OEM monitor business. The move will occur in April.

Executives from the company were not immediately available to answer questions about the changes. However, in the statement, Philips said the reorganization "will focus on building on the success of its branded monitor business in the channel, leveraging Philips' core competencies in monitors and Philips' investment in LG Philips."

Another element of the reorganization includes Philips' discontinuation of its front projector business in the United States, also effective next month.

The U.S. business products unit of the giant global company launched a major channel initiative almost two years ago, in an effort to grab a piece of the growing space for flat-panel displays and large-screen monitors. The company is also collaborating with Intel on a drive to provide additional processing capabilities into the LCD-TV space.
